Watercolor classes in Sacramento, California

No wishy-washy wimpy watercolors here. Learn to paint intense glowing colors, instead of "muddy" colors. Classes concentrate on different TECHNIQUES each month, and to make it fun, we also paint a different subject each month. Each class is offered at three locations. You may take just one class or the entire series.

Locations:

Sacramento Fine Art Center
5330-B Gibbons Drive, Carmichael

University Art Center
2610 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento
To register for a class please call (916) 652-4624 to ensure there is space available.

Confirm your registration by writing your check to "Sandy Delehanty", and mailing it to P. O. Box 130, Penryn, CA 95663. Checks are not cashed until after the class has taken place.

To cancel your reservation notify Sandy (by telephone not email) in time for her to find a replacement for you and your check will be returned. Most classes fill early and have a Waiting List so a replacement can usually be found.

Come visit me in my studio in the back of Elliott Fouts Gallery,

My studio time varies so call the gallery at (916) 736-1429 prior to stopping for a visit.

The goal of this workshop is to get beginners off to a good start with a solid understanding of the medium of watercolor. Students will create their own "How to Watercolor Binder" filled with step-by-step handouts for each technique and their own guided practise on various watercolor papers cut to fit their binders. In addition to practising watercolor techniques, students will learn the properties of watercolor pigments, the difference between color and value, study basic color theory and learn to stretch watercolor paper. Most important they will learn several methods for correcting mistakes. This will be a very practical, down to basics, workshop. PAINTING WATERCOLORS ON AQUABORD

“NO MORE FRAMING UNDER GLASS”

Finally, we can eliminate costly framing and create a non-glare surface more desirable to many collectors.  There is a new product called Aquabord that you paint on with watercolors and then seal with acrylic spray varnish.  I will demonstrate painting and lifting techniques on Aquabord and help you create your own paintings on this surface.  Aquabord is available at University Art’s location at 2610 Marconi Avenue at a discount to students who enroll in this class.   If you do not live in Sacramento you can find it in most art supply catalogs, under the name “Aquabord”.

'AUTUMN LEAVES"

Emphasis on negative painting

Negative painting is really fun. You apply color to the paper first, then paint the "negative space" around the leaf shapes to create the leaves. We will use actual leaves as "stencils" to paint around and create a colorful pile of leaves like the one in this painting.
